Paperwaif’s Story

Learn about Paperwaif’s journey from an unrealistic dream to a lifelong obsession with writing, designing, and creating directions that highlight positivity, homegrown styles, and whimsical moments.

Finally finished my home edit to include the perfect style studio and home office for the budding writer and designer who self isolates, locks the door and ignores the world, and stays up at all hours obsessing over failed novels, botched patterns, and those pesky details that derail a person’s success. While thoroughly discouraged and bummed with writing, emailing, and constant rejection, I finally decided to focus on something other than dismembered bodies, menacing mannequins, and the world plummeted to a humbling demise. From the other side, a simple but sweet home office now highlights my favorite pastimes. Since I am a waifly writer with little hope of actually becoming more than a basement dweller, I use whatever I can to create the look I want without spending much. Imagine old palettes and bookshelves, a twenty year old dress form, an Ikea desk that cost 50 bucks, and a trusty handyman that can construct anything (thank you by the way). Despite disliking pink, I went with a soft romantic shade that is barely visible in photos. Next, I added a couple of palettes, a mirror, light switches, a desk, and a few items from design school that I can’t live without. Obviously, not the upscale, sleek, in a city loft look that some may love. But for the middle-of-nowhere wallflower who loves an airy, minimal working space, this studio edit feels perfect for sewing masks, designing shift dresses, and writing yet another unsuccessful novel. To making failing look amazing…. xoxo Paperwaif

Aryn Lane is the creator of Paperwaif, a shelf featuring contemporary novels, digital publications, and style ideas. As a child, she ran around the family farm and was given the opportunity to work at a young age, offering her plenty of sunshine and inspiration. Always one to stay busy, she's always tackling new projects and trying to figure out how to move forward while prioritizing the daily chaos. Combining her ideas and passions, she dove into fashion design and enjoyed designing collections for her paper muses, but quickly realized that she prefers the quieter environments and country aesthetics. Honing her skills from college, she has actively pursued writing and digital designs while continuing to admire the evolving industries. Paperwaif has offered her a place where she is able to combine her favorite pastimes like digital designs and whimsical stories, pressing them into one setting that can be shared with an audience.
